Introduction
PrivAI (“we,” “our,” or “the app”) is a mobile application that helps you capture, transcribe, scan, and summarize your own content. We built PrivAI with privacy as a core principle: your notes, voice recordings, scanned documents, and summaries are processed and stored on your device whenever possible.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using PrivAI, you agree to the practices described here.
Information We Process
Depending on how you use PrivAI, the app may process the following types of information:
- Voice and audio — when you use speech transcription, audio from your microphone is processed to produce text.
- Images and documents — when you use document scanning or OCR, images you select from your device are processed to extract text.
- Text content — transcriptions, OCR results, notes, tags, and summaries you create or edit in the app.
- App preferences — settings such as OCR language and engine preferences stored locally on your device.
PrivAI does not require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number through the app itself.
How Your Data Is Processed
On-device processing
Most core features run locally on your phone, including text summarization, note storage, and OCR using on-device engines such as Tesseract and ML Kit. Speech recognition uses your device’s built-in speech services where available.
Local storage
Your transcriptions, OCR results, summaries, and notes are stored in a local database on your device. This data remains on your phone unless you back it up through Android system backup or export it yourself.
Internet access
The app may request network access for optional features or future cloud-assisted capabilities. When processing stays on-device, your content is not sent to our servers for those features.
Permissions
PrivAI may request the following Android permissions:
- Microphone — to record and transcribe speech.
- Photos and media — to import images for OCR and document scanning.
- Internet — for optional network-dependent features, if enabled.
You can revoke permissions at any time in your device settings. Some features may not work without the relevant permission.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. PrivAI does not share your content with third parties for advertising purposes.
Your data may be handled by platform services you already use on your device—for example, Android speech recognition or Google ML Kit—subject to those providers’ own privacy policies. We do not control how those services process data when you use them through the app.
Data Retention and Deletion
Content you create in PrivAI stays on your device until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. Uninstalling PrivAI removes locally stored app data unless it was included in an Android backup you restore later.
You can delete individual notes, transcriptions, and OCR results from within the app at any time.
Children’s Privacy
PrivAI is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, please contact us so we can help you remove it from the device.
Security
We design PrivAI to keep processing local and minimize data exposure. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we encourage you to use device lock screens, encryption, and current Android security updates to protect your phone.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes become effective means you accept the updated policy.
